With the end of the Civil War in 1865, the United States turned to mend the sectional differences that had separated our country and caused four years of bloody war. Known to historians as the Reconstruction Era, it covers the years from 1865-1877. Little known military and civilian genealogical records include: The Freedman’s Bureau, Southern Claims Commission, and Confederate Amnesty Papers.
